A serious accident occurred late this afternoon on Thursday, July 10, 2025, in Kouhounnou, near the General Mathieu Kérékou Stadium. Three painters fell from the second floor of a building under renovation after being electrocuted by an electric cable, resulting in the death of one of them.
The scene caused distress in the Kouhounnou district of Cotonou. As they were working on repainting a two-story building, three workers violently fell after accidentally coming into contact with a high-voltage electric cable.
The incident occurred around 5 pm, while the team was still active on their metal ladder, not far from the General Mathieu Kérékou Stadium.
According to testimonies collected by BENIN WEB TV, one of the painters inadvertently touched a high-voltage electrical wire. The electrocution reportedly caused an immediate imbalance, leading to the painter and his two colleagues who were sharing the ladder with him, to fall.
Emergency services were quickly alerted. Unfortunately, one of the workers died on the spot, while the other two had to be urgently evacuated to a hospital. Their health status remains unknown for now.
