The illegal storage of adulterated gasoline, commonly known as “Kpayo”, is the cause of a violent fire in Abomey Calavi. No loss of life has been reported, but the material damage is substantial.
Firefighters took several hours to put out the flames in a densely populated neighborhood. To prevent the spread, they had to remove the roofs of several neighboring houses.
Many containers of gasoline and other goods were reduced to ashes. The origin of the fire remains unknown at this stage, according to sources from The Investigator.
