Benin: a high school girl jailed in Abomey-Calavi for embezzlement
The court in Abomey-Calavi examined, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, a case of breach of trust involving a young girl in high school, housed by a couple in Agori, in the same municipality. She is accused of embezzling more than one million CFA francs to the detriment of her guardian.

According to the elements presented at the hearing and reported by Bip Radio, the respondent, about 20 years old, would have emptied the mobile money account of her guardian, where there was an amount of 1,045,000 CFA francs intended for purchases.
On the stand, the complainant claimed to have found only about 20,000 CFA francs. She claims to have caught the young girl as she was getting ready to transfer the rest of the money.
The defendant did not dispute the facts. She admitted to having made fraudulent transfers to two friends. However, part of the funds remains unaccounted for. In addition to the money, several personal items belonging to the complainant’s children would also have been pilfered.
Upon her appearance, the schoolgirl was placed in provisional detention. The court decided to refer the case back to September 18, 2025, to allow the defendant’s parents to attempt an amicable settlement by reimbursing the embezzled amounts.
