Barça: Deco shuts the door on Messi’s return this winter
FC Barcelona sporting director Deco dismissed the possibility of a loan for Lionel Messi, saying the Inter Miami captain remains tied to his club and that such a scenario was never considered internally.
Lionel Messi
FC Barcelona sporting director Deco cooled speculation about a possible return of Lionel Messi to Catalonia in the form of a short-term loan. While some rumours suggested the Inter Miami captain could rejoin the club where he wrote the greatest chapters of his career, Deco wanted to clarify the situation. Having left for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2021 before joining Inter Miami in MLS, Messi remains under contract with the Florida-based franchise.
« A short-term loan for Leo Messi? I don’t think that’s feasible », the Barcelona official said, quoted by Fabrizio Romano. « Leo has a contract. I don’t believe that was a topic of discussion… Messi is still Messi, he can always bring something; but it’s not a route we’re exploring at the moment. »
A clarification that seems to put an end, at least temporarily, to hopes of seeing the Argentine wear the blaugrana shirt again.
