Atletico Madrid: Julián Álvarez misses training after tensions over his future

Julián Álvarez was not present at Atletico Madrid training on Wednesday morning. According to Marca, the Argentina international is said to have missed the session because of a health issue. The absence comes as the former Manchester City striker’s future is still fuelling debate in the Spanish capital. Álvarez is said to want to join FC Barcelona, but Atletico is currently refusing to consider a transfer to its direct La Liga rival.

The situation became even more tense last weekend, when the player was targeted by part of the Madrid supporters. Boos accompanied his appearances, against a backdrop of uncertainty over his future. Atletico’s management is sticking to its position and does not want to strengthen Barca with one of its main attackers. The club would therefore prefer a possible negotiation with Arsenal, which is also interested in the Argentine striker.

As the transfer window closes in, the Álvarez case remains closely watched. Between the player’s wishes and the firm stance of his directors, the next few days could prove decisive.
