Angelique Kidjo: 1st African star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Angélique Kidjo, the legendary Beninese singer and multiple award-winner (5 Grammy Awards), makes history. She became the first African artist to receive a star on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The official announcement of the selection for the Walk of Fame Class of 2026 was made during a conference organized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at Ovation Hollywood, in Los Angeles. This ceremony took place on July 2, 2025, although the board had initially validated the nominations on June 25.
Thus, Angélique Kidjo will be among the 35 personalities chosen in the Recordings category, alongside international artists such as Miley Cyrus, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and Rami Malek.
Originally from Ouidah (Benin), Angélique Kidjo has made a global mark with a unique style blending traditional African music, jazz, funk, pop, and afrobeats. In addition to her Grammy Awards, she is known for her collaborations with greats like Carlos Santana, Peter Gabriel, John Legend, Bono, and Alicia Keys.
Committed to human rights and education, Angélique has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2002 and is the founder of the Batonga Foundation, which funds school education for young girls in Africa. This Hollywood honor rewards her decades of cultural presence, global influence, and social commitment.
