AFCON 2025: Osimhen in Chelle’s sights after internal tensions

The Nigerian coach, Éric Chelle, does not rule out disciplinary measures against Victor Osimhen, who was involved in an altercation with Ademola Lookman during the Super Eagles’ emphatic 4-0 win over Mozambique in the round of 16.

The Super Eagles’ coach, Éric Chelle, hinted that a sanction could be considered against Victor Osimhen after his altercation with Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique on Monday night in the round of 16 of AFCON 2025.

The incident occurred in the second half, while the Nigerians were already in control of the match. Heated exchanges were observed between the two forwards on the pitch, before Osimhen requested to be substituted. Galatasaray’s centre-forward then gave way to Paul Onuachu.

After the match, Osimhen went straight to the locker room, not taking part in the team celebrations. Asked at a press conference about the incident, Éric Chelle chose to remain evasive: “What happened on the pitch will stay within the group. I don’t need to say more; it will stay internal,” he concluded.
