AFCON 2025 – Nigeria: Osimhen says Super Eagles are ready for battle against Tanzania
Before Nigeria’s first game at AFCON 2025, striker Victor Osimhen called for focus against Tanzania, while embracing the Super Eagles’ status as favorites in Morocco.

Victor Osimhen said the Super Eagles were ready to get down to business against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars, on the eve of their start at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, reports the Daily Post. The Nigerian side will open their campaign on Tuesday in Fez against Tanzania. Runners-up in the previous edition in Ivory Coast, Eric Chelle’s men go into this match as favorites, facing a Tanzanian team playing its fourth AFCON and that has never yet made it past the group stage.
That said, Osimhen calls for vigilance. « It’s about going into battle. Tuesday’s the first match and we’ll give everything. We don’t underestimate anyone in our group », the Galatasaray striker told journalist Kelechi Anyikude. Aware of the expectations, the Nigerian scorer nonetheless embraces his team’s ambition: « We are among the favorites to win the tournament. We’ll give everything to make our dream of winning AFCON come true. »
Determined to lead Nigeria to a fourth continental title, Osimhen also knows he’s expected to deliver individually. In the previous edition, the striker scored just one goal and provided one assist in seven matches. A return he hopes to improve significantly in Morocco.
