The heavy favorite for the crown, Nigeria, overpowered Mozambique (4-0) Monday night, sealing their quarterfinal berth without breaking a sweat. The Super Eagles quickly took control of the match before running riot against the overwhelmed Mambas.
In the other Round of 16 match played that day, Egypt proved solid and efficient to beat Benin (3-1). The Pharaohs thus confirm their status and continue their run in the competition. In the quarterfinals, Egypt will face the winner of the clash between Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. For its part, Nigeria will face the winner of the highly anticipated duel between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Algeria.
