FIFA president Gianni Infantino reacted strongly to the incidents that occurred during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, involving certain Senegalese players and members of the Senegalese technical staff. In a statement released by AFP, the international leader denounces “unacceptable scenes” and warns against any violent conduct in football.
“It is unacceptable to leave the field in this manner, and violence cannot be tolerated in our sport. It is simply unacceptable,” insisted Infantino. For the president of FIFA, “any other behavior would endanger the very essence of football.” He also recalls that “teams must play in accordance with the laws of the game” and that “the decisions made by the referees, on and off the field, must be respected.”
Gianni Infantino also calls on CAF’s competent disciplinary bodies to “take the appropriate measures” so that such excesses never happen again. “The deplorable scenes we witnessed must be condemned,” he concluded, underscoring the need to protect the integrity and spirit of African football.
