Suspended for unsporting behavior after the semi-final against Senegal, Marwan Attia and Salah Mohsen will miss the third-place match, a blow for the Pharaohs ahead of facing the Super Eagles of Nigeria this Saturday in the AFCON 2025 third-place playoff.
Egypt will have to do without Marwan Attia and Salah Mohsen for the placement match against Nigeria, scheduled for Saturday in Casablanca. The two internationals were suspended by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their unsporting behavior during the semi-final defeat to Senegal (0-1). After the match, Marwan Attia had made a gesture suggesting possible refereeing corruption, while Salah Mohsen was noted for mocking gestures toward Senegalese journalists.
A double absence that further complicates the Pharaohs’ coach Hossam Hassan’s task, who is already facing several absences ahead of this meeting. The seven-time African champions, Egypt, will nonetheless try to end their AFCON campaign on a positive note against the Super Eagles. The kickoff will be at 17:00 (Nigeria time) at Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
