Botswana is already looking ahead to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. To kick off preparations, coach Morena Ramoreboli has named an extended 36-player squad, including 32 shortlisted players and four reserves, tasked with laying the initial groundwork before the Zebras start their campaign.
Back in a final tournament for the first time since 2012, Botswana intends to approach this AFCON with ambition. Thatayaone Ditlhokwe’s teammates secured their spot by finishing behind Egypt in the qualifiers, a performance that revived the momentum of a squad in rebuilding.
For this first phase of preparations, Ramoreboli has relied on a backbone made up mostly of players competing in the domestic league. A few foreign-based players, notably in South Africa and Morocco, complete this preliminary group, which will be trimmed over the coming weeks.
Placed in a strong Group D, Botswana will have to face Senegal, DR Congo and Benin in the group stage of AFCON 2025. A major challenge for a squad determined to shake up the hierarchy.
