Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said he would have been sacked “within six months” if he had managed Real Madrid last season.

On the eve of the Champions League clash with the Merengues, the Catalan coach spoke at length about the pressure surrounding the coaching position at the Bernabeu, as Xabi Alonso goes through a difficult period and sees his future called into question.

Coaching Real Madrid is the hardest job in football,” Guardiola said at a press conference. “If I had stayed there like last season, I would have been sacked within six months.”

For City’s coach, the Madrid club’s constant demands make it a unique environment where only victories really count.
