South Africa: Jabulile Majola unveils “Ipasi,” an album of 11 tracks

Available on streaming platforms, the project has a runtime of nearly 43 minutes. Apple Music lists it under Jabulile Majola, licensed exclusively by Quiet Life Co.

“Ipasi” roughly translates to the concept of an identity document. In an interview with EWN, the musician explains that this album continues the narrative begun with his EP “Isitifiketi” and captures a new phase of his evolution.

The album addresses themes such as unemployment, love, rejection, hope, and prayer, with lyrics predominantly sung in isiZulu. It features tracks like “Mandla,” “Hope,” “Baba Wethu,” and “Uze Wazi,” recorded with Lia Butler, while Thando Zide contributes to “Ubukho Bakhe” and “Sonke (EKapa).”

OkayAfrica included “Ipasi” among the notable African releases for the week of September 11. The media outlet highlights the emotional depth of the project and its grounding in the lived experiences and stories collected by the artist.

The release is accompanied by a South African tour that kicked off in Gqeberha on September 11. The schedule published on the website of Jabulile Majola also includes stops in East London, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, where the tour is set to conclude on September 25 at the Playhouse Company.
