Sierra Leone: APC postpones contested internal elections to September 15

In a notice published on September 11 by its national secretariat, the APC stated that petitions initially reviewed by its Independent Elections Complaints Board have been forwarded to the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC). The party aims to consider the regulator’s decisions before resuming the voting process.

All outstanding constituency elections are now set to take place on September 15, alongside the yet-to-be-organized ward elections. This measure only affects the internal consultations that have been pending.

The PPRC had established September 8 as the deadline for filing appeals against the decisions of the APC’s internal complaints resolution body, ahead of hearings scheduled for September 9 in Freetown. Disputes had already led to the postponement of some constituency elections earlier this year.

This reorganization comes as the national political debate gradually shifts towards upcoming deadlines. President Julius Maada Bio recently called for inclusive electoral reforms before 2028, particularly regarding voter registration and results management.
