Sean Combs’ lawyers seek to withdraw from his $100 million lawsuit
The law firm representing Sean “Diddy” Combs in his $100 million defamation lawsuit has requested permission from a federal judge in New York to withdraw. They cite unpaid fees and a breakdown in communication, two claims disputed by the rapper.
In a motion filed with the court, attorney Michael Tremonte states that his firm, Sher Tremonte, has not received any payment for over six months. He also claims that Sean Combs refused to meet with his civil counsel for four months, making it particularly difficult to continue their representation.
These points represent the version presented by the lawyers to the judge. Sean Combs, through his representative, asserts that he decided to change counsel after receiving bills he deemed excessive and unauthorized. His team characterizes the matter as a commercial dispute over fees.
The dispute dates back to January 2025. The founder of Bad Boy Records sued Courtney Burgess, attorney Ariel Mitchell, and Nexstar Media following the airing on NewsNation of allegations he claims are false. He is seeking $100 million in damages.
Another document submitted to the case indicates that the parties may consider mediation or a settlement conference. As of September 16, 2026, the judge had not yet ruled on the withdrawal request.
