Russell Crowe unveils documentary about his life as a musician in Venice

The New Zealand-born actor combines concert footage, archival material, and reflections on both sides of his career. For him, music and acting stem from the same creative impulse and cannot be separated.

The project was conceived fifteen years ago and was initially intended to be completed in twelve months. However, Russell Crowe continued filming throughout his musical endeavors, ultimately gathering around 5.5 million meters of footage.

With a runtime of 99 minutes, What Love Builds particularly highlights his work with Indoor Garden Party. The band, led by Russell Crowe, blends rock, blues, country, and gospel.

Hollywood, the stage, and a family project

At 62 years old, the actor claims he has never established a rigid career plan. After winning an Oscar for Gladiator in 2001, he followed up with films such as A Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander, and From Darkness to Light, while also pursuing his musical projects.

The documentary reflects on this dual trajectory and how the experience of performing live informs his work in front of the camera. Russell Crowe now expresses a desire to dedicate more time to his sons in Europe.

Nevertheless, his career remains active with several projects in film and television. Indoor Garden Party is also set to embark on a tour in Eastern Europe in 2027.
