Ramatoulaye: “From MACA to MAKKA,” the novel inspired by her journey expected on September 19

The book will be presented alongside his 10th one-man show, “Ramatoulaye 2Tenues.” Its title echoes two significant stages in the artist’s recent journey: his time at the Abidjan Penitentiary Center, formerly known as MACA, and his pilgrimage to Mecca following his release from detention.

Presented as a novel rather than an autobiography, the work uses this trajectory to address downfall, reflection, and reconstruction. Mamadou Gueu Dia Jonathan signs the text, while Ramatoulaye is its central figure and main source of inspiration.

This statement comes as the comedian seeks to fully reconnect with his audience after a year marked by intense controversy. In January 2026, he was convicted of disrespecting the national emblem following the broadcast of a post-AFCON video, before issuing new public apologies.

A dedication grafted onto the 10th one-man show

The event on September 19 is set to include two parts: the show “Ramatoulaye 2Tenues” and the book presentation. The evening is scheduled to take place at the Abidjan Exhibition Park, where several comedians and guests are also expected to join the artist.

The show, with a duration announced to be approximately an hour and a half, was presented in early September as a comeback centered on his personal journey, forgiveness, and African unity. Comedians from several countries across the continent are announced alongside Ivorian figures.

Ramatoulaye at the center of the story, but not the author

The nuance is important: Ramatoulaye is not presented as the author of “From MACA to MAKKA.” The novel is credited to Mamadou Gueu Dia Jonathan, who draws on the comedian’s experience to build a story of resilience and second chances.

The book signing is scheduled for September 19 at the Abidjan Exhibition Park, immediately following the one-man show. For Ramatoulaye, this evening is therefore meant to mark both a return to the stage and the opening of a new chapter centered on her story.
