Parakou: launch of the conversion works of the old Guèma market into a modern bus station.

This development project is part of the municipality’s policy aimed at reorganizing road transport, modernizing urban infrastructure, and redeveloping public spaces in the city.

Abandoned after gradually losing its commercial purpose in favor of the new modern market, the site of the old Guèma market had become a problematic area in terms of security.

Furthermore, the disorganized boarding and loading of passengers outside designated areas posed a recurring issue. The construction of this modern bus station aims to combat urban disorder and road congestion; enhance road safety in this strategic area of the municipality; and provide a structured and secure environment for users as well as transporters.

An initiative welcomed by transport stakeholders

The realization of this project has generated satisfaction among professionals in the sector. According to Imorou Ibrahim, vice-president of the National Union of Drivers of Benin (Unacob), the development of this new infrastructure will significantly improve the working conditions of transporters while bringing better organization to their daily activities.
