Parakou: a 7-year-old boy found dead in a septic tank in Banikanni
Shock reigns in the Banikanni neighborhood located in the second arrondissement of the municipality of Parakou. A 7-year-old boy, who had been missing for several days, was found dead in the septic tank of the family compound.

According to information from Fraternité FM, the child had not shown any signs of life since Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Alerted by his disappearance, the family had engaged in intense searches with the help of the neighbors, without being able to find any trace of him.
It was the father of the young boy who ultimately made the grim discovery on Thursday, August 6, 2026, spotting his son’s body in the septic tank of the home.
Opening of a police investigation
Once alerted to the discovery, officers from the Banikanni police station promptly arrived on the scene to collect samples and make the necessary observations. Deputy Commissioner Pascal Hounon confirmed the opening of a judicial investigation aimed at uncovering the exact circumstances of the death.
This tragedy brings to light the issue of securing sanitary installations and septic tanks in residential compounds.
