It’s official. Ronald Araújo is a Liverpool player. The Uruguayan defender from FC Barcelona joins the Reds on a loan for the 2026-2027 season, with a purchase option estimated at 55 million euros. He notably replaces Ibrahima Konaté, who left for free to Real Madrid.

Arriving at Barça in 2018, Araújo, 27 years old, has played 213 matches in the blaugrana jersey. Despite his physical qualities and international experience, he has gradually lost his place in the pecking order. Last season, he was notably surpassed by Pau Cubarsí and Gerrard Martín, while his performances drew considerable criticism.

His arrival at Liverpool represents an opportunity to reignite his career in the Premier League. His strength, aggression in duels, and versatility, as he can also play as a right-back, are assets for the English club. Liverpool has to deal with several absences in defense, notably those of Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni. The loan thus allows the Reds to strengthen their defensive sector while retaining the option to decide at the end of the season whether they want to permanently recruit the Uruguayan.
