Transfer window: Barcelona concerned about Julián Álvarez as Atletico negotiate with Arsenal

Barcelona’s move for Julián Álvarez is becoming more difficult as the summer transfer window draws to a close. The Catalan club is said to have learned that Atletico Madrid is currently talking with several teams interested in the Argentine forward, including Arsenal. Barca had already been turned down after an offer valued at 100 million euros to secure the former Manchester City player’s services. Atletico, angered by the Blaugrana’s interest in its striker, remains firmly opposed to strengthening a direct rival in La Liga.

The situation has also become tense between Álvarez and part of the Madrid supporters. On Sunday, the Argentina international was loudly booed at Atletico’s stadium, while his desire to leave the club for Barcelona is still being discussed. Arsenal, meanwhile, are making their move. Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his attacking options and sees Álvarez as a signing capable of bringing more solutions to his team. With only a few days left in the transfer window, Barcelona will therefore have to deal with competition from the Gunners and, above all, Atletico’s determination to prefer a sale outside La Liga.
