Liverpool–Atlético: Julián Álvarez ultimately starts despite Simeone’s announcement
Julián Álvarez is finally starting with Atlético Madrid this Wednesday, September 9th at Anfield against Liverpool, for both clubs’ entrance into the Champions League. The decision is surprising in light of Diego Simeone’s statements, who had indicated the day before that he did not see the Argentine forward starting the match.

Atlético published their official eleven shortly before kick-off, with Jan Oblak in goal and an offensive duo composed of Kang-in Lee and Julián Álvarez. Álex Baena, Koke, Pablo Barrios, and Giuliano Simeone complete the Madrid midfield.
On Tuesday, Simeone had stated that he did not yet see Álvarez in a position to start this match, while specifying that the 2022 World Champion could contribute during the game. This change in choice comes as Alexander Sørloth is unavailable and Atlético is looking for offensive solutions for their trip to Anfield.
On the Liverpool side, Bradley Barcola is making his first start in the Reds’ shirt. The English club also features Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister in their starting eleven.
The Liverpool–Atlético match is scheduled for 9 PM at Anfield.
