Guinea: the MFWA condemns the kidnapping and assault of Me Mohamed Traoré
Mohamed Traoré, former president of the Bar Association of Guinea and ex-member of the National Council of Transition (CNT), was abducted and violently assaulted on the night of June 20 to 21, 2025. The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) strongly condemns this act.

According to information received, Mohamed Traoré was targeted due to his widely broadcasted resignation from the CNT and his persistent criticisms against the current governance in Guinea. His assailants clearly indicated to him that this violence was a “warning” related to his public stances.
The MFWA, in a press release issued following this incident, describes this act as “barbaric” and calls on the Guinean authorities to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation to find the perpetrators of this abhorrent attack. The organization also calls for their indictment before competent jurisdictions.
The Media Foundation for West Africa emphasizes the need to ensure the safety of dissenting voices and to protect fundamental freedoms in a fragile political context. “Violence targeting public figures for their opinions is unacceptable and threatens democracy and the rule of law,” affirms the MFWA.
This abduction and assault have sparked a wave of outrage in Guinea and in the sub-region.
