Ghana: Zonda Tec increases its capacity to 3,000 vehicles per year

The expansion is also expected to significantly boost employment around the site. According to data presented during the inauguration, the investment is projected to nearly double the company’s direct workforce and create around 1,000 indirect jobs in logistics, maintenance, component supply, and distribution.

The site assembles heavy trucks, passenger cars, sports utility vehicles, and light trucks from several Chinese brands. The increase in capacity strengthens local supply in a market where Ghana aims to reduce its reliance on imported vehicles.

The government also intends to tighten the conditions for accessing tax benefits granted to local assembly. John Dramani Mahama announced that a new threshold for locally produced content will be required to qualify for VAT exemptions.

This revision aims to distinguish assembly operations that genuinely create local value from limited assemblies of vehicles that are almost entirely imported. The executive also seeks to encourage local manufacturing of components such as batteries, tires, wiring harnesses, seats, glass, plastics, and metal parts.

Zonda Tec has also established a training academy for automotive trades and a foundation offering specialization scholarships in China. The Minister of Finance is set to present the new tax incentive framework in the upcoming national budget.
