Gaani 2026 in Nikki: Republican Police urges festivalgoers to be careful on the roads

Faced with the massive influx of participants from Benin and abroad, the director of public security, Segle Jean-Marie, published a video on the institution’s official Facebook page to call on road users to stay extra vigilant.

Because of the heavy traffic on roads leading to Nikki, the security authorities are insisting on strict respect for driving rules. The director of public security is urging drivers in particular to:

• Reduce their speed and avoid any risky behaviour.
• Avoid drinking alcohol while driving or riding to prevent accidents.
• Ban dangerous overtaking and lane changes, and keep their vehicles on the right side of the road.

Helmet use compulsory and collective responsibility

The recommendations also apply to two-wheel users. The Republican Police reminds motorcycle riders and their passengers that wearing a helmet is mandatory.

Stressing that a single lapse can have serious consequences, the police are calling for collective responsibility to ensure peaceful celebrations and the safety of all festivalgoers’ movements.
