Friendly match: Nigeria will face Russia in October
The Super Eagles will continue their preparations with an international match against Russia. The Nigerian team will travel to Nizhny Novgorod on October 6, a few days after their first two fixtures in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

The Nigerian national team will face Russia in an international friendly match on Tuesday, October 6, at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, according to the Daily Post. This match will provide Eric Chelle’s men with a prestigious challenge the day after the launch of their African campaign. Before this encounter, the Super Eagles will have two official matches scheduled. Nigeria will begin the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations at home against Madagascar on Friday, September 25, before traveling to Guinea-Bissau four days later to face the Djurtus on Tuesday, September 29.
This series of matches will allow the Nigerian coach to make several adjustments and assess his team against a European opponent. Nigeria and Russia are already familiar with each other. The two teams ended in a draw (1-1) during a previous friendly match held on June 6, 2025, at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. This new encounter will therefore provide another opportunity for the Super Eagles to test themselves against the Russian team.
