Four major leagues seek to limit the concentration of power at FIFA

In a joint statement, the four leagues proposed three changes. First, they want to establish a permanent body representing national federations, leagues, clubs, and players. This body would need to approve decisions related to the calendar, labor relations, competitions, and the core assets of football.

The signatories also request that major decisions be based on published data, an independent assessment of their effects, and consultation with the relevant parties. They further demand a clear separation between FIFA’s regulatory role and its commercial interests as a competition organizer, with independent bodies overseeing ethics, financial supervision, and elections.

This stance comes after the abandonment of the FIFA Football Economy project, which aimed to open part of the commercial assets of the organization to private investors. According to the four leagues, the withdrawal of this project does not address the governance conditions that made it possible.

The leagues invite candidates for the FIFA presidency to support these commitments and request that a governance convention be convened within the first hundred days of the next term. The final report is expected to be delivered within six months. The deadline for applications is set for November 18, ahead of the election scheduled for March 2027 in Morocco.
