Fire at Beau Rivage: Parliamentarians at the bedside of the victims
The fire that occurred during the night of Thursday, August 6 to Friday, August 7, 2026, continues to attract significant attention from the authorities. On Monday, August 10, 2026, all the deputies from the 19th electoral district, which includes Porto-Novo, Adjarra, Sèmè-Podji, and Aguégués, visited the site of the disaster to assess the extent of the material damage to the infrastructure.

The wreckage of burned vehicles, including a truck, a sedan, two minibuses, a tricycle, and a motorcycle, had previously been cleared from the area.
A united approach in support of local authorities
The parliamentary delegation was jointly led by deputies Charlemagne Yankoty from the Union Progressive le Renouveau (UPR) and Sofiath Schanou Arouna from the Bloc Républicain (BR). It also included UPR deputies Hypolitte Hazoumè, Cécile S. Ahoumènou Hounkpatin, and Victor Hounsa, as well as BR deputy Michel Oloutoyé Sodjinou.
For this field visit, the parliamentarians were accompanied by the Prefect of the Ouémé department, Marie Akpotrossoue, the Mayor of Porto-Novo, Rachadou Toukourou, surrounded by his assistants François Adjimon Ahlonsou, Paul Hèdokingbé, and Gertrude Nadia Sèna Dossa. Several departmental directors from the public administration were also present.
A call for solidarity and risk coverage
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, deputy Charlemagne Yankoty emphasized that this joint initiative aims to support the efforts of the municipality of Porto-Novo and the Ouémé prefecture.
For her part, deputy Sofiath Schanou Arouna stressed the unpredictability of such disasters and urged the need for insurance subscriptions to protect built heritage and effectively cover fire risks in the future.
