Diplomacy: French President Emmanuel Macron announced in Benin
Four years after his last visit to Cotonou, French President Emmanuel Macron could return to Benin by the end of 2026.

According to information reported by Financial Afrik, this stop in Benin would be part of a West African tour that would also take him to Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria.
A first contact with the executive of Romuald Wadagni
If confirmed, it would be Emmanuel Macron’s first official visit to Benin since the inauguration in May 2026 of President Romuald Wadagni.
During his previous visit in July 2022 under the presidency of Patrice Talon, the French leader sealed the warming of bilateral relations through cooperation agreements on security, economy, culture, and the restitution of Benin’s cultural heritage.
A redeployed and offensive Beninese diplomacy
This prospect of a meeting comes as President Romuald Wadagni is deploying an offensive diplomacy aimed at diversifying his international partners and consolidating regional alliances.
Since taking office, the Beninese head of state has undertaken numerous strategic trips, notably to the three countries of the Sahel States Alliance (Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali), as well as to Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, and Mauritania, not to mention a recent trip to Brussels.
