Detroit: Family discovers another body before their mother’s funeral

Relatives of Kimberlly Kaye Moore visited the Hutchison Funeral Home ahead of the wake scheduled for Friday, September 18. According to their account reported by local station WXYZ, an unknown woman was dressed in their mother’s gown and had been styled and made up to resemble her.

Bianca Robinson, one of the deceased’s daughters, explained that she identified the mistake upon noticing the absence of a mole on one of her mother’s toes. She had planned to apply false eyelashes and prepare her mother’s nails when an employee opened the casket.

According to the family’s account, staff mentioned the disappearance of an identification tag and the possibility that Kimberlly Kaye Moore may have already been mistakenly cremated. This theory has not been confirmed by the funeral home or authorities. The family states they have not received the ashes of the deceased.

The relatives had planned a ceremony before the cremation to see their mother one last time. Following the discovery, they protested outside the funeral home. Detroit police were called to the scene to maintain order, according to WXYZ.

Joseph Hutchison Jr., vice president of operations at the funeral home, stated that the establishment is investigating the matter. In a statement provided to ClickOnDetroit, the funeral home expressed that it is “deeply sorry” and promised to communicate with the family during the internal review.
