CPS Presidency: Benin presents a report focused on prevention and inclusion

During three weeks of intense multilateral activity, Cotonou conducted strategic deliberations focused on resolving sectoral crises, protecting vulnerable populations, and strengthening continental multilateralism.

A diverse agenda between Bangui, Algiers, and Cotonou

The exercise of this rotating presidency has resulted in concrete diplomatic initiatives in several theaters. The Beninese representatives have notably led evaluation sessions dedicated to the political and security situation in the Central African Republic, while giving priority attention to the critical plight of children affected by armed conflicts.

Outside national borders, the Beninese delegation coordinated in Algiers the official commemoration of the African Month of Amnesty in favor of civilian disarmament. Domestically, the city of Cotonou hosted a high-level ministerial conclave dedicated to the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda, reaffirming the crucial role of community actors in mediation and social cohesion.

A doctrine focused on prevention and the mobilization of African capacities

Beyond the apparent diversity of these files, the Beninese governance of the CPS revolves around a clear guiding principle: to prioritize anticipation, voluntary disarmament, and inclusive management of crises through local expertise.

Far from claiming to overhaul the existing institutional architecture of the African Union, Benin’s assessment is reflected in the activation of specific operational levers, placing preventive dialogue and the full participation of Africa’s active forces at the heart of a sustainable security response on the continent.
