The Beninese Ministry of Economy and Finance welcomed, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, the delegation from the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) Commission, along with representatives from relevant ministries and structures involved in the implementation of community commitments.

The review aims to measure the level of transposition and implementation in member states of the acts adopted by the Council of Ministers and the Conference of Heads of State and Government of UEMOA. For the 2026 edition, the evaluation relied on a framework covering 145 community texts.

The work focused on three areas: economic governance and convergence, the functioning of the common market, and sectoral policies. At the end of the exercise, Benin reported a completion rate of 73%.

According to the UEMOA Commission, the threshold of 70% reflects significant efforts in the implementation of community reforms. However, the president of the institution, Abdoulaye Diop, indicated that some areas still required progress.

“What is most important for us today has been to observe the very strong commitments of the Beninese authorities so that at the next review, we can register significant advances in areas where further efforts are expected,” he stated.

The Follow-up of Texts at the Heart of the Exchanges

The Beninese Minister of Economy and Finance, responsible for Cooperation, Aristide Medenou, attributed the results obtained to the regular follow-up of community texts and the mobilization of the relevant administrations. He estimated that this level of achievement illustrates Benin’s commitment to regional integration and compliance with its obligations within UEMOA.

The review also allowed for the identification of difficulties encountered in certain sectors, sharing experiences between administrations, and seeking solutions with the UEMOA Commission to improve the transposition and application of reforms.

The Beninese government reaffirmed its intention to continue the efforts made to consolidate achievements and improve the country’s results in future evaluations. The authorities thus intend to contribute to the strengthening of economic and monetary integration in the UEMOA area.
