Benin: truck carrying horses crashes on return from Gaani, killing one and injuring several
A serious traffic accident occurred this Thursday near Boko, in the district of Sirarou (commune of N’Dali).

A truck carrying riders, horses and several passengers returning from the Gaani festivities in Nikki overturned in a ravine.
According to details provided by the head of the Sirarou district, Alidou Tamou Orou Yorou, to Fraternité fm, the tragedy occurred during an overtaking maneuver between two heavy goods vehicles.
The appearance of a light vehicle in the opposite direction forced the drivers to pull back urgently. While trying to swerve to give way, the truck carrying the riders left the roadway before leaving the road fatally.
The provisional report shows one death and numerous injuries. Nine people were quickly admitted to Boko hospital to receive emergency care, while victims with the most severe trauma were evacuated to the Departmental University Hospital Center (CHUD) of Borgou, in Parakou.
On the ground, Republican Police officers and rescuers from the Borgou departmental civil protection branch mobilized to rescue the accident victims and secure the area.
This accident occurs in a context of high attendance linked to returns from the traditional Gaani festival. Significant slowdowns and dense parking of heavy goods vehicles are currently reported around the Sirarou toll. Local authorities are calling on all road users to reduce their speed and exercise increased caution in the area.
