Benin: the Government is building 60 new classrooms at CEG La Verdure in Ouèdo

The Minister of Secondary Education, Clément Adéyèmi Kouchadé, visited the site to assess the progress of the work. He was accompanied by staff and technicians from his department.

The project aims to enhance the capacity of the college, situated in an area experiencing a gradual influx of families into social housing in the new city of Ouèdo. This demographic growth increases the need for educational infrastructure.

The program includes the construction of three R+1 type buildings. Ultimately, the establishment will feature 60 classrooms organized into five modules of 12 classrooms, as well as sanitary blocks that meet comfort and hygiene standards.

Two buildings are fully completed. The project manager, Gabin Koundé, informed the minister that the third building is expected to be delivered before the start of the 2026-2027 school year. The schedule is designed to allow the use of the new facilities right at the start of classes.

A project set to be replicated

For Minister Kouchadé, these works should accompany the rapid urbanization of Ouèdo and ease the pressure on existing infrastructure. The new classrooms are also expected to improve teaching and learning conditions, according to the ministry.

CEG La Verdure is presented as the pilot institution for this school infrastructure extension program. The project is set to be implemented in other institutions over the coming months, though the number and specific timetable for the affected colleges have not yet been disclosed.
