Benin: Sonsoro police station in Kandi targeted by armed attack
An armed attack targeted the Sonsoro police station, a locality under the jurisdiction of the Kandi municipality, in the Alibori Department, on the night of Monday, June 16, 2025, around 11 p.m.

The information was confirmed by several sources contacted by the media outlet Fraternité fm. The attackers, whose exact number remains undetermined at this time, targeted the police post’s infrastructure, resulting in significant material damage.
According to eyewitnesses on the scene, several motorcycles belonging to security officers were set on fire. No deaths have been officially reported, although authorities are still conducting checks.
Immediately after the incident, local authorities confirmed the attack and sought to reassure the public about the return to normality. A sweep operation was launched in the area, mobilizing the defense and security forces to find the perpetrators of this armed incursion.
Located about 20 kilometers southwest of Kandi, the municipality’s capital, Sonsoro is both a city and a strategic district in the far northeast of Benin, bordering the sensitive areas where the security threat is on the rise.
