Benin: on the podium of the 2026 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiads
Benin won a bronze medal and an honorable mention at the 3rd edition of the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), held in Astana, Kazakhstan. This performance, achieved against 437 candidates from 106 countries, ranks the country third in Africa, according to the information provided.
In its second participation in the competition, the Beninese delegation was recognized twice. Emmanuel Christiano Guidimadjegbe, a student at Notre-Dame de Lourdes Catholic College in Porto-Novo, won the bronze medal.
Raphaël Nguebou, a student at F. M. Coulibaly Technical High School in Cotonou, received an honorable mention. Both candidates were among the eight members of the Beninese delegation participating in this edition.
The result marks progress compared to Benin’s first participation in the IOAI, which resulted in an honorable mention. It also confirms the growing presence of Beninese candidates in international competitions focused on artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
The Olympiad assesses participants’ knowledge and problem-solving abilities in areas related to artificial intelligence. The preparation of the Beninese delegation involved mentors, trainers, and several teams specialized in training for digital technologies.
