Benin: the hierarchy of the Republican Police raises its voice against corruption among certain officers
This was a strong clarification made by the Director General of the Republican Police on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Surrounded by the central commander of territorial units, the Director of Human Resources, the head of the police in Atlantique, and all the district commissioners of the department, he chaired an important coordination meeting dedicated to public security.
The exercise allowed for a thorough review of the operational record of recent months and the adjustment of strategies in response to the persistence of security challenges. But beyond performance indicators, the issue of the integrity of uniformed personnel dominated the discussions.
The hierarchy reaffirmed its zero tolerance for corruption and extortion practices that undermine trust between citizens and law enforcement.
At the end of these proceedings, a reminder was issued to all unit commanders regarding the strict respect of ethics and professional conduct, which must now serve as the essential compass for building a credible police institution firmly focused on protecting the population.
It should be noted that in recent months, law enforcement has increased field operations, resulting in the dismantling of several ghettos, which were hotbeds of insecurity and various types of trafficking.
