Benin: Chabi Yayi placed in police custody after questioning by the judicial police
After his questioning, Chabi Yayi was placed in police custody on the evening of Sunday, December 14, 2025, according to one of his lawyers.

According to the latter, the procedure is said to be linked to the attempted coup foiled on Sunday, December 7.
Arrested at around 2 a.m., he is said to have been taken to the Directorate of the Judicial Police, several corroborating sources cited by Bip Radio report.
At this stage, no official communication has specified the exact reasons for his arrest, leaving many questions among the public.
According to sources close to the case, security forces reportedly went to the political leader’s home before carrying out his arrest.
This arrest comes in an especially tense political context, following a failed coup attempt. Since then, several investigations have been opened to identify the perpetrators, accomplices and possible supporters of the attempt.
