Benin: Basile Ahossi confirms his support for Wadagni at a massive rally
MP Basile Ahossi, elected representative for Mono and second vice-president of the Les Démocrates party, continues his political repositioning.

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, he organized a large rally in Athiémé to show his support for the duo Romuald Wadagni and Mariam Chabi Talata, the ruling coalition’s candidates for the 2026 presidential election.
This initiative marks a further step in a shift that began in September. At that time, the lawmaker had already caused a surprise by sending an official letter to Minister of State Romuald Wadagni to express his personal support.
Saturday’s rally at the Athiémé stadium appears to be the concrete expression of this stance.
For Basile Ahossi, the stakes go beyond a mere show of force. He intends to send a political signal ahead of the start of the presidential campaign. He explained his position by pointing out that Romuald Wadagni has never held the office of Head of State and that, in his view, he represents a new dynamic within the ruling coalition. “Romuald Wadagni is not Patrice Talon,” he stated during Saturday’s rally.
