Benin: a teenager found dead in a water reservoir in the Thian district
The Thian district, located in the Gorobani area, was the scene of a tragic accident this Friday, August 28, 2026. The lifeless body of a young boy, whose age is estimated between 12 and 14 years old, was recovered from a water reservoir around 1 p.m.

The alert was given by the cries of a local resident. Quickly mobilized, several local young people who knew how to swim came to the victim’s aid. Despite their efforts, the teenager who came out of the water after several minutes of searching had already died.
According to testimonies collected on site by Fraternité fm, the victim did not live in the neighborhood. The local delegate as well as the police station services were immediately informed in order to take the necessary steps to identify the young boy and contact his family.
This water reservoir, with a depth of more than three meters, constitutes a particularly high-risk water point. Faced with this tragedy, residents are calling for vigilance among parents, urging them to step up surveillance of their children and control their swimming areas, particularly during this school holiday period.
