Benin: a car catches fire in Abomey-Calavi
A vehicle caught fire during the night of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the Togoudo intersection, in the municipality of Abomey-Calavi. According to witnesses, the driver, alone in the car, managed to get out in time.

A major traffic jam at the Togoudo intersection turned chaotic when a vehicle parked in the backup suddenly caught fire during the night of Tuesday, December 1, 2025. The driver, apparently an elderly man, noticed suspicious smoke while waiting in the middle of the traffic. He hurriedly exited through the driver’s door, taking only his phone and his bag before the flames took hold of the vehicle.
According to an eyewitness, the scene unfolded in a matter of seconds, under the helpless gaze of road users trapped in the “monster traffic jam.” The vehicle, which the witness said appeared to be an official car, went completely up in flames. The fire caused panic on the busy thoroughfare.
Despite the intensity of the fire, no loss of life was reported. The driver, who was alone in the car at the time, managed to get to safety before the flames spread. The exact causes of the fire remain unknown for now.
