Abomey-Calavi: the mayor orders the temporary closure of sand quarries in Akassato

The mayor of Abomey-Calavi, Nathanaël Koty, is taking action in response to complaints from residents regarding the degradation of the roads on the Akassato–Sô-Ava axis. Meeting at the town hall on Wednesday, representatives of the quarry operators were reminded of their obligations, particularly for the backfilling and reshaping of the roads damaged by truck traffic.

At the end of the meeting, the mayor ordered the temporary closure of the affected quarries for ten days, allowing time for road restoration. Nathanaël Koty then visited the Akassato site to assess the situation. Issues related to transparency and invoicing were also noted and will be followed up.

The Republican Police has been instructed to ensure compliance with the closure order. Furthermore, it should be noted that this decision aims to preserve the roads and the living conditions of the surrounding populations while better regulating the exploitation of quarries in the municipality.
