President Burkina Faso addressed his fellow citizens on Thursday after the deadly attack on a SOMAFO convoy on the Ouagarou-Boungou axis. In his message, the Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces made a surprise decision.
In order to effectively fight terrorism and enable the defence and security forces to occupy the entire national territory, President Kaboré gave the green light to the army’s leaders to recruit volunteers in areas affected by armed groups. “I have ordered the recruitment of defense volunteers in threatened areas. Only a general mobilization, of the sons and daughters of the Nation, regardless of region, ethnicity, political opinion and religious denomination, can defeat these murderers, without faith or law, who dream of submitting our Fatherland and our brave People to their Machiavellian diktat,” the Head of State wrote.
Before the Wednesday attack, the former Upper Volta lost Oumarou Dicko, deputy mayor of Djibo, in an ambush on the Ouagadougou-Djibo axis. In order to reorganize the fight against terrorism in the Sahel, the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly launched a new operation “Bourgou IV” to reduce the number of attackers. Mali, a country in the Sahel, also experienced a deadly weekend with 49 soldiers killed at the front. In all this climate, the multinational force of the G5 Sahel is silenced.
