Ivory Coast Elephants lost on Tuesday 19th November in the second round of qualifying for the 2021 Cameroon African Cup of Nations. Against Ethiopia, Ibrahim Kamara’s foals were beaten 2-1.
After their narrow victory against Niger in the opening of the qualifying campaign,Ivory Coast was surprised this afternoon in Ethiopia by the Walyas at home. An early goal by Captain Serge Aurier, the Elephants were caught up before being led to the final whistle. This defeat temporarily relegates the 2015 African champions to third place in Group K pending an explanation between Niger and Madagascar at 5pm.
Disappointed since the last Afcon in Egypt, Ivory Coast is going through a difficult transition with talents such as Nicolas Pepe and Maxwell Cornet struggling to confirm. Coach Ibrahim Kamara’s choices are also a source of concern. The dismissal of the captain of Parma, in the Italian top flight Yao Kouassi “Gervinho“, attracted the anger of the supporters. The coach must review his copy if he wants to continue the adventure at the head of the Oranges.
