United States has once again imposed sanctions on Russian officials in connection with the case of interference in the 2018 local and parliamentary elections.
On monday, 30 september, Washington toughened its stance against Moscow in its attempt to interfere in the 2018 U.S. local and parliamentary elections. According to the US Agency for Enforcement of Sanctions (FOCA), the new provisions target a person already pinned down in investigations. “Today’s actions increase the pressure on an already sanctioned person, Evgeny Prigojine, by targeting his physical assets including three planes and a yacht, as well as employees of the Internet Research Agency, which Evgeny Prigojine finances,” she wrote.
For US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the United States will not tolerate destabilizing activities by Russia on its electoral process. Since 2016, Moscow is suspected of interference in the U.S. presidential election that saw the victory of Donald Trump over Democrat Hillary Clinton. In Russia, the authorities do not intend to stand idly by in the face of these new sanctions, they promise a symmetrical response.
