Liga-Barcelona:Messi sets a new record

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has set a new record. A goalscorer against Sevilla last Sunday, the Argentine enters even more into the history of the Spanish Liga.

The “pulga” adds a new record to its list of achievements. On Matchday 8 of the Spanish league, the Catalan No10 opened his goalscoring account against the Andalusians of Seville. Captain Blaugrana scored his team’s fourth goal with a masterful free-kick. In doing so, the five-time Golden Ball became the first player to score in 16 consecutive Liga seasons. A performance never achieved in the Spanish league.

The Rosario native holds several records of this magnitude thanks to his longevity in this championship with his training club. Some observers often rank him on the short list of the best players all the time. With an injury-stricken start to the season, Messi is gradually returning to his best level before the third round of the European Champions League and especially the Spanish “classico” announced on 26 October. The performance against Sevilla on Sunday (4-0) was the biggest win for Barcelona since the start of the 2019-2020 season.
