Invited on the national radio this Sunday, 20th October 2019, the Communication Director at the Benin Presidency mentioned the agenda of the Head of State marked by a trip abroad. According to Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji, it was in view of this visibly busy agenda that President Patrice Talon rushed to meet the Conference of Presidents of Parliament in the context of implementing the recommendations of the political dialogue.
The Council of Ministers on Wednesday, 16th October 2019 authorised Benin’s participation in the enthronement ceremony of the new Emperor of Japan on 22nd October 2019 and in the 1st Russia-Africa Summit on 23rd and 24th October 2019. According to Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji, it is within the context of these activities that the Head of State is currently staying abroad. “The Head of State is currently residing abroad. He will attend the enthronement of the new Emperor of Japan; after that he will be in Russia for the 1st “Russia-Africa” summit, he said.
During this first “Russia-Africa” summit, President Patrice Talon is scheduled to deliver a speech to the participants. This message should come after the speeches of the Russian President, Egypt, Angola and Algeria. Diplomatic relations between Benin and Russia date back to 1986, when General Mathieu Kérékou signed the declaration of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in Moscow.
