Nigerian President Mahamdou Issoufou carried out a reshuffle on friday (20 september). According to presidency of republic defence official statement portfolio has changed hands.
Niger’s president has carried out a “technical” reshuffle within his government. At Defence ministry, he chose Issoufou Katambe, who was previously Minister of Water. His position, which had become vacant, was entrusted to Kalla Moutari who had been removed from the national defence. The same communiqué also referred to the appointment of former Finance Minister Massoudou Hassoumi to State ministry to President of Republic.
All of these graduates come from the presidential majority party. The reshuffle comes just months before the 2020 presidential election. Head of state Mahamdou Issoufou promised to respect the constitution so as not to run for a third term. And in this context, it is the current Minister of the Interior Mohamed Bazoum who will defend the colors of the ruling party in the 2020 presidential election against the exiled opponent Hama Amadou whose candidacy may not be validated because this former boss of the parliament is convicted by the justice system in his country.
