“There will be strong reprisals if the United States attacks Iran,” Tehran warned on Friday. A warning on Washington and Riyadh’s accusations against the Islamic Republic after the bombing of Saudi oil refineries.
“If the Americans have a plan in mind, the Iranian nation will respond from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean,” said General Yahya Rahim Safavi, military advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader. He warned that US President Donald Trump would share the fate of previous presidents, who “had failed to impose their political will on the Iranian nation,” reports the Russian agency RT. Tensions increased in intensity after drones attacked two state-run oil installations in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The attacks temporarily neutralized half of the kingdom’s oil production capacity.
The attacks were claimed by Yemeni Houthi rebels. But Riyadh and its main ally, the United States, have accused Iran. The latter immediately denied any involvement in these acts of sabotage and indicated that they were pretexts for the Saudi Arabs and Americans to attack Iran. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the attack was an act of war by Iran. Officials in Tehran, for their part, have renewed their commitment to fully respond if they are attacked by the United States, reports the Russian media.
